Message : President MMAA

To
All Life Members and State Affiliates
of Malaysian Masters Athletic Association (MMAA)

Dear All, Greetings from MMAA! Salam Hormat!

I on behalf of the new MMAA Council Members would like to wish all members A Very Happy New Year and Happy Chinese New Year!

MMAA has grown steadily and has improved in many aspects since it was formed in 1984. When it was formed by life members, there were only a few members and the only activity conducted was Malaysian Masters Athletics Championships annually , with about 200 participants taking part. Now the number of participants has increased to 700 - 800, and about 10 – 12 foreign countries taking part in our Malaysian International Open Masters Athletics Championships organised every year. We also organise this meet in various states to cater for the master athletes in the different states and also providing opportunity for our master athletes to travel all over Malaysia and enrich their social life.

Apart from that, we also organise Masters Sports Carnival, Dinner and Award presentation, Seminars, Masters’ Road Races, A Day with Olympians and other activities for school children such as Merdeka Run, Netball competition from time to time. Our motto “Motivation before Participation” is put into action by these activities.

Many of our athletes are now taking part in Asian, World and Invitational Masters Athletics championships. We are glad to note that our master athletes are very serious in this sports and performing very well. In 1980’s some master athletes have taken part in world masters athletics championships and have won medals (MMAA did not exist that time). After about 30 years, now our athletes are winning medals at World championships. Congratulation!

Now the Masters Athletics has become more structured and governed by World Masters Athletics (WMA). There are Constitution , Rules and By-laws set by WMA in cooperation with IAAF. All Affiliates of WMA must abide by the rules. All master athletes must go through their national masters’ athletics association to take part in all masters’ championships. All those who to wish to take part must follow the rules and condition set by WMA. MMAA has always assist our master athletes taking part in whatever way we could to make sure they participate in a good environment.

MMAA is a “non profitable” organisation. We do not select master athletes to take part in Asian or World masters meet. We always encourage more and more of our master athletes to take part, so that they can keep themselves fit and healthy physically, mentally and socially. We also give some incentives to gold medal winners in Asian meets and medal winners at World meets. We always provide attire and other basic things according to our financial capability, to our master athletes taking part in Asian and World Masters Athletics Championships.

MMAA has organised successfully Asian level championships twice, in 1990 and 2010 in Kuala Lumpur. Asian countries are very happy with our organisation, and for the third time we have been entrusted with the responsibility of being the host for 2019 Asian Meet. We are glad to inform that the 21st Asia Masters Athletics Championships (21st AMAC) will be organised in Kuching, Sarawak, from 2nd – 6th December 2019. MMAA congratulate and wish thank you to Sarawak Government for all their effort and assistance to MMAA in staging the championships in 2019. We hope to stage a very successful and a memorable championships.

MMAA will be organising “Malaysian Athletics Olympian and Ex International Star Night” on 21st April 2018, at Hotel Hilton PJ. During this function our master athletes will be honoured. Invitation has been extended to all Affiliates.

I take this opportunity to thank our Patron, Datuk Seri (Dr) V. Pulainthiran, all our Life Members and Affiliates (State Masters Athletics Association), for all their support and cooperation to all masters’ activities. We hope more and more master athletes from all the states will participate in the future.

Kudos and Congratulations to all our master athletes who participate in various activities. Keep going for the wellbeing and enjoy the life !

MMAA wish thank you to Malaysian Youth and Sports Ministry, Malaysian Sports Commission, National Sports Council Malaysia, Olympic Council of Malaysia, Malaysian Athletic Federation and all NGO who always render their support and help for our activities. I would like to note here that, MMAA is one of the most active sports association in Malaysia, and it has been acknowledged by the Ministry of Youth and Sports!

I would like to remind all including me that we are all volunteers trying to help our master athletes for their wellbeing and give happiness to others. Every deed we do, will definitely make master athletes happy. So let us all work together for the betterment of our master athletes. Let us hope and have confidence to better our lives and all our master athletes’ life.
